Fires, the movie ONCE, annoying neighbors

I am back in Los Angeles. It is hot and it's going to be 92 degrees tomorrow! I guess I won't be wearing the winter jacket I bought in Toronto at Mountain Equipment Co-op any time soon.

There was/is a massive fire in Malibu. A church and a 17 million dollar home were among the structures that burned down. The Santa Ana winds are fierce which is a problem. As we flew into LAX we saw that the entire basin was covered by smoke. As bad as the Malibu fires are, San Diego county is in big trouble. Over 250,000 people had to be evacuated. One town pop. 36,000 has been demolished. There are also fires in Big Bear, Santa Clarita and north of us.

On the plane I watched the movie ONCE. I wanted to see this little gem of a movie earlier but missed it. It's an indie movie from Ireland that won the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival. I loved this movie. The music was great and moving. Fox Searchlight distributed the movie here in the U.S. and I assume it will be out on DVD soon. I guess you can say it's a romantic comedy/musical.

I have been gone for two months. Why when the car service dropped me off was my annoying neighbor sitting where I left him? I bet he didn't even move from that spot. He lives in the building next door. His balcony looks down unto my patio. He does nothing but smoke all day and yell at his wife. I'm not sure where he is from, he moved here recently. He speaks very loudly to my next door neighbor (the one with the little tea cup dog that barks non-stop) and carries on a long conversation.

Oh well, what can you do?

FH man sent me an email from France wondering why I wasn't there. Sounds like things are going well and everyone I've heard from said the food is amazing. sigh.

Girl, pack your stuff, drive across the country and leave it with your family if you have to, and get yourself on a plane to Italy. France is right next door, non?

California is burning down. Leave that mess to your obnoxious neighbour, and go follow your bliss.

Sounds like you should go to France and get away from the fire, right?

jen - I don't think that excuse will fly with my boss but I might try it. :)

gibber - I was on Air Canada and they had those screens where there is a variety of programming.

Wow, hard to believe two months have gone by. What a great experience for you! And, hmmmm... FHM's email sounds pretty much like what happens about 3/4 of the way through a romantic movie. You just have to get through the other 1/4... you know, the part where you take everyone's advice here, hope on a plane with no luggage and you casually bump into each other on the streets of Paris. Right?

Under the Parisian Sun! ;-)

She jumps up, calls the airline, reserves the last ticket available, flies right to Paris with her Toronto suitcases that she hasn't even unpacked yet, dashes out of Charles de Gaule (sp?) airport and into FH man's arms. Yay. The movie ends with them embracing on top of the eiffel tower as they look off into the Parisian sunset. :-)

shelley and tina - you are hilarious!

These comments have inspired my post for today.

Welcome back to LA. Hope none of the fires are near you. I read that a lot of Southern Californians are lesving th the state now, so a quick vacation in France might be excusable.

Regarding your neighbor. There are few things worse than having bad neighbors. I recently moved because of noisy and I mean noisy neighbors.

Where you live is supposed to be an oasis, but a lot of people don't get that. My last neighbor was a couple that I referred to as the Stompanslammers, because they constantly stomped around their apartment and slammed every door and cabinet in their apartment insesantly!

So I don't know about dropping everything and going to Paris (although that does sound nice) But you might want to find a nice cozy cottage like I did! (lol)
