A big fat THANK YOU!! Jumping The Broom has a great opening weekend

Ciao bloggisti.

JTB far exceeded industry expectations opening weekend. Our movie's budget was 6.5 million and we grossed 15.3 million.

We came in number 3 ahead of SOMETHING BORROWED which was a surprise. SB was on almost 1000 more screens and had a budget of 35 million.

I don't know why some news reports have headlines saying THOR hammered the box office. Hello, counter programming?! We were not competing with a 100 + million budgeted super hero three/four quadrant movie.

We had an unprecedented jump from Saturday to Sunday. This explains why the early box office estimates were off. Usually films drop from Saturday to Sunday.

A huge grazie mille to everyone who wrote about and supported JTB. So many of my fellow expats helped spread the word Stateside.

The last few days have been bananas. I will try to post some pics from the premiere later today or early this week.

Wonderful news!!! My friends and I all went to see it over the weekend (many of us withour moms) and it was ALL anyone could talk about!!! I think every girl I know is now dreaming of getting married at the Vineyard :)
Such a good, sweet, HILARIOUS film-- I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! We need more of those kinds of black films so I'm so glad its being supported at the box office. Kudos!!! :)

that's so fantastic. I get those Sunday-afternoon moviegoers; if I were in the States that's when I would have gone!

So excited for you - especially about doing better than Something Borrowed with its MANY more screens and much bigger budget!!!!

Dang I just wish I could see your movie!!!

Congrats and you're getting a lot of hits on YouTube as well. I found the trailer via another trailer for a Kate Hudson movie, so you're in good company! ;)

I've been lurking quieting reading your blog for many months now. I've even referred it to a couple of friends. We all live vicariously through you as we all want to transition in some way.

I am very happy for your/JTB's success and I hope it leads to more opportunities!

Hi- I have been reading your blog for about a year.Today I went, with my friends, to see your movie and it was GREAT!!! Everyone in the theater was laughing and "cupid shuffled" out with a smile on their face. A funny and positive movie- which is a rare gem in Hollywood these days :)

What no more JTB mondays??????

Well i saw the movie over the weekend and loooooooooooooved it. The dialogue was sublime!
There were tons of LOL moments and dialogue. I found myself cutting laughs short to hear the next funny line.

Favorite character: Uncle Willy Earl
Favorite scene: Momma Taylor's blessing of the meal
Favorite 'oh that's just foul' moment: when Momma Taylor blabbed the secret on the wedding day

Loved that the leading woman wasn't perfect (not the family issue) She was a bit bridezilla-ish!

Ooh I loved the 'token white' wedding planner and her effort to be 'down'

I was more than disturbed by the whole Little Romeo thing. He'll always be little Romeo to me. There was a great pedophile line there too. Loved it!!!

Congrats, kudos to you! Did you get to meet the actors? TD Jakes?
Why is JTB mondays over??? :-(

Thanks for the congrats everyone.

Gigi - well there might be some more JTB Mondays as I learn more about international dates and the DVD release! Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie. My parents said it was sold out.

Yes, I did get to meet the actors.

Hello

I am a blog and real life friend of Jess from SxM (often comment on her blog as Sissi). I have been reading your blog for years. I am currently on the island (where I used to live and my forever home away from home) and Jess and I went to see your movie and we loved it! We had a good time and the audience too!
Congratulations for pursuing your dream, having the guts to make the change and being successful at it.

Bonne Continuation!

(we both noticed how all the cast was incredibly good looking)
