Eat, Pray, Love movie shooting in Rome

This morning while running an errand, I bumped into the crew again.

Yesterday they were all over Campo dei Fiori. Tourists were standing around trying to get a photo of Julia Roberts.

I stopped by the set to say hi to the producer, who is in from L.A. and one of the African security guys asked me out. Uhm, I'm just trying to say hello to someone.

Anyway I didn't see him later that day (he said he would give me his number) but I wouldn't be surprised if I see him on the way to the post office tomorrow. ha

I also spoke to an American guy who lives here now and is a fireman. He was one back in the States, fell in love with a Roman woman and moved to Rome. He was able to get a job as a fireman specializing in production work.

I kind of miss being on set. However, I imagine shooting a big Hollywood movie in a place with so many tourists and narrow streets must be tough. The poor P.A.s and security had their hands full trying to clear the set.

Turning a sunny afternoon into an early evening night.

A light crane in front of the Forno. Once of the greatest places in Rome.

For someone who knows zero about movie-making, this is fascinating reading.

I agree with farfalle1, I would have enjoyed seeing how these things work behind-the-scenes. What movie was it for?

Cool tidbit about the fireman, too. You should do a follow-up story!

I drove by a movie set yesterday in Scarborough, ON (Toronto) on Hlll Cres. You always know there is a movie with the amount of transport trucks, trailers and cars in an upscale neighbourhood of Scarborough (these usually located by the Scarborough Bluffs). I didn't see any stars but alot of people with clip boards running around (5ish). I'll take some shots today if I can.

Very cool! Believe it or not, we had a crew just off our road yesterday... Michigan is trying to be the new tax break haven for the film industry and it's working, a bit.

farfalle1 - glad you liked it.

Peter - it's for the film version of the Int'l bestseller by Elizabeth Gilbert EAT, PRAY, LOVE. Julia Roberts is starring, Brad Pitt's production company is producing.

lucia - I used to see the transpo trucks (and hear the noise from the generators) all the time when I lived in NYC. In L.A. a lot of things were shot on the (studio) backlots.

florleon - you didn't leave any contact info. Been in Rome since April 2008

tania - good luck with the move. My friends and contacts are on the film side and mostly talent (actors, writers, directors). I don't know much about TV physical production but hopefully can help somehow.

jen - I believe it. Didn't Eastwood's Gran Torino shoot in MI?

oh my gosh they are making a movie out of this book? I hated it! Except the part about Italian food. I listened to the book on audio and elizabeth gilbert's late-night easy-jazz DJ voice made me want to puke. Especially when she talks about taking a "brazilian luvvah."

I wasn't a fan of the book myself but it was a good concept. Wish I could swing a deal like that.

viajera - ha!

stephanie - yes they are. I haven't read the script so I don't know which parts of the book they are keeping.

ms. violetta - She was a successful writer before she got the book deal. EPL really took off once it came out in paperback. Everyone, especially the author and the publisher, was surprised that it sold millions of copies around the world.

I love Rome. I loved the book EAT, PRAY, LOVE. It was an interesting journey of Elizabeth's life. And I love Julie Roberts. Sounds like a great mix to me.

Liked your post.
