Flashback Friday – Whitney Houston - "It's Not Right But It's Ok (remix)

Whitney's new album drops soon.

A music journalist from Rolling Stone said it's a Beyonce world and she didn't think there was a place for Whitney.

hmmm. Seeing how Beyonce has yet to drop a ballad ala Whitney, Mariah or Christina, let's take it easy.

Even people who were not fans of Whitney's genre recognized the woman had some serious pipes. To compare her to Bey is ridiculous.

I remember when this SONG came out. It was quite the club hit. It's also an excellent song to work out to.

Have a great weekend.

"Don't you turn around. There's no more tears left here for you to see". Love that line. Very Gloria Gaynor. No matter if love her or hate her, you can't deny the beauty of that voice. Good luck Whitney.

I hope her new disc is amazing. Her talent staggered me.

I bought the LP last saturday, when I saw it by surprise on iTunes.

I didn't hesitate, because there had been alwys at least two or three songs which were perfect. The one you mentioned is such a song.

But I have to say, for a record after so many years I'm dissapointed.
It's easy to listen, but I heard no song which is an "Ohrwurm" (earworm, does this term exist in english?).

Ms. wooden shoes - it is very Gloria Gaynor. A great line.

jen - same here.

andre - earworm? I don't think so but I know exactly what you mean.

I love this song. I heard it on the radio the other day (before I read your post) and thought-"hey isn't this Whitney Houston?" As for the Rolling Stone article-the writer has yet to realize that great music and a great voice will still trump the glitz and glamour.

the part where she says "you were making a fooooool of me ooohhhhhhhhhh" used to give me chills...i had that single, i'll admit it.

gotta love a good kiss-off song!

"I can change my life, take care of my babies" I loved that line from that song at the very end. I gotta say I am not very impressed with Ms. Beyonce and don't think she's in the same category as Whitney at all. While Whitney may not be what she used to be, Beyonce has yet to live up to what Whitney already did. Not to hate on Beyonce, I'm just saying :0

Not that I'm a fan but I do appreciate real talent and that's what WH has over all the reality "stars" and pop divas. I truly hope she's beaten her demons and that her comeback is a success.

moi - I agree. WH first week sales did better than expected.

tracie b. - I loved that part too.

la vita nuova - you are preaching to the choir. I think Bey works very hard but I wish people would stop comparing her to singers like Tina Turner or Whitney.

milanese - I hope she has as well.

My girl is back. I've been listening to her ballads and looking at her videos nonstop for weeks now just to celebrate, and they never get old. Awesome voice, awesome presence.

Whitney has always been in a class of her own and comparing her with Beyonce is nonsensical. I also find the long-standing comparisons with Mariah Carey nonsensical. I'm rooting for her and hoping she licks her problems. Who the hell doesn't have challenges in this life? Everyone messes up but the human spirit can prevail.
