drama

I don't have time to write a long post as I am back at the Internet cafe/laundry place.

I am not moving next week. There are delays. Fine. I get that but she should have told me last week. Was very upset yesterday. Went to bed at 8:00 p.m. just so the day would be over.

G. said I could stay with him until my apt. is ready. Then today I receive an email from the landlord saying she never got my email last week telling her I was in Rome. She wants to show the apt. when it's done. Excuse me?

I have already emailed the guy in L.A. who told me about the apartment. I don't believe after months of emailing she would pull this.

G. said not to take it personally. It has nothing to be with being American. He haas his own landlord stories.

He and another friend made me meet them for lunch instead of stewing in my apartment. We went to this very nice place on Via Margutta (sp).

I hope by the weekend this will be resolved.

Oh cr** , thats to bad. So she wants to show your place to others? Can you find another apt, now that your in the city. Everything has been so smooth and seemless , so of course Murphy's Law has to appear. Hang In there.

Oh no :-(

Well this will all work out for you, I Promise. I will send you good apartment vibes and think about you all weekend.

Something will turn up and it sounds like you have some good supportive friends there. That is a huge bonus!

I hope it gets easier... And if she's going to be pulling stuff like this, maybe a better solution will be found?

Oh dear! I'm so sorry about your landlord problems. Am sending some good karma your way and some bad mojo to the landlord! Don't let it get you down. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Unfortunately, things don't work like back home. Here, whoever shouts the loudest gets respect and results.

I am sorry to hear about the landlord situation. She sounds a bit shady to me. It's good that you know a couple of people there to help you keep your sanity. Thank God for good friends to help calm your nerves, vero?

If I didn't know any better, I would think that you're my long lost twin. I also, if I'm having a really bad day, will go to bed early with the hope that when I wake up the next day the bad vibe will have disappeared. It usually works. LOL

Hang in there.

Well, maybe it's a good thing. I know that you would like to be settled as soon as possible, but why don't you move in with G and start shopping for a better, more reasonable apartment. It should be easier now that you are there than from LA.

I remember seeing apartments for rent or roomates wanted around Trastevere by a college and the term should be ending soon. (And I read once that Italians like renting to Americans because it is almost impossible legally to get an Italian out of a rental but Americans are much more cooperative and like to play by the rules.) Two can play at the shopping around game. (Remember that saying - when in Rome....)

What is going on in that landlord's head? Why would ... uh, it baffles...

I'm just glad you have good friends there!

Grazie everyone for the positive vibes. All my offical docs have this address on it so it would be pain in the butt to find another place. Plus I really like the area.

Homebody I need to get residency so I will have to rent an apt. w/a contract. The special breaks Americans get won't apply to me. I'm here on my French passport.

As others have said above this could either the Italian lack of doing things "in punto" or it could be that she really is shady.

Whatever the case, you'll find something else. Have a look at porta portese, wanted in Rome etc and ask around.

Did she promise to give you a regular (4+4) lease? Since you'll be resident in Rome, she has to by law. Also, what is the rent like compared to similar places? Now that you're here, you can look around and get a feel for the market.

kataroma - yes it will be a regular lease and her apartment is below market value (one reason it's worth waiting for).

Well I've now caught up on your recent posts so I know the landlord drama really was just a miscommunication--thank goodness!

But I just had to say I love this line:

Went to bed at 8:00 p.m. just so the day would be over.

Have *so* been there.

bleeding espresso - I am glad to see I am not the only one who does that. :)

I think I love G.

This might sound trite, but it helps when I encounter some kind of BS crap like that. I tell myself that it's all for the best, and that my guardian angel is seeing something down the road that I can't.

Good luck!

wordtryst - grazie. yes G. is a gem.
