Prada and a serious case of Spring Fever

It's only February.

During the last few days we've had highs in the mid-60s here in Rome.

The store windows are full of pretty clothes for Spring. Why must I be tempted so?!

For the first time in a while, the clothes coming down the runaway were fun and optimistic.

I'm kind of obsessed with these Prada shoes. I don't have Prada money.

Every year Prada does some variation of a Mary Jane. I have a pair of black patent leather Mary Janes I bought over ten years ago. I bought them as a treat to myself after getting completely screwed over at work (long story). I couldn't afford them back then either. I convinced myself, cost-per-wear, the Pradas would make more sense in the long run.

And they did. All the cheaper shoes I had are long gone. My Mary Janes are still in excellent condition despite getting quite the work out in L.A.

If I could figure out how to walk on cobble streets, I would wear them more often here.

I can't wait until Spring fruits and vegetable arrive at the Farmers Markets.

Warmer weather means a return to sitting outside for aperitivi or lunch/dinner with friends.

I have a few big things on the horizon this Spring. Our movie Jumping The Broom opens (ahem, May 6th, Mother's Day) and I hope to move to a new neighborhood. I will miss my current apartment but with yet another bar opening in Campo, I cannot renew my contract.

I know we still have the rest of February and the month of March before we can start packing away the winter clothes. However, I've noticed the days are already getting longer.

What are you looking forward to this Spring?

You are a cruel, cruel woman. Now I'm obsessed with them, too! Stunning. AND my favorite colors.

Can't wait for JUMP THE BROOM!

LOVE those! I *heart* shoes. I still can't manage cobblestones in heels, either. Here in a steep hill town I'd tumbled all the way to the valley if I fell! ;)

Can you say 'love'? Don't tempt me. I am shoe obsessed and after two years of now being able to wear my heels I might be able to justify a purchase like this one.

I too have noticed the longer days and am very excited about Spring and Summer. Summer means going home too! I look forward to seeing you in Rome next month, hope you will be around. I will send you an email on Flicker soon.

ashley - I'm sorry. It's not my fault. Blame Miuccia Prada. Seriously, the collection was a little wacky with the Dr. Seuss influence but the minute I saw the shoes...sigh.

Simone - I hear what you're saying. I might have to break down and get them.

valerie - ha. I don't understand how my Italian friends can walk in heels on these cobblestone streets. It's a gift.

suzette - oh oh. As you know, Italy is a dangerous place for the shoe obsessed. Very dangerous!

i wish I could wear heels like that on any surface! As I suffer thru 18 degree weather, spring seems so far away. Like a mirage in the desert. I can't quite believe that it will ever get warm.

And what will happen is we'll have 3 weeks of spring and then it will be 90 degrees and humid until September.

gibber - wow, it's that cold in DC? Last year we had a short Spring. It get VERY hot here but I think it's less humid than DC.

Oh.. how I love me some shoes!! I wish I could wear heels too but, walking on cobble stones and carrying a stroller up and down stairs aren't easy. I have a few pair just waiting to be worn.... hopefully soon!

Just today, I also noticed that it wasn't as dark at 6pm when I left my class... Spring is on the way!

I always paint my toenails on the first day of spring!

Love the shoes.

Those are stunning shoes!! We've had some tempting spring days on the Amalfi Coast, too. We even went to the beach for a couple of hours last Saturday! But, you're right ... the winter wardrobe is going to be around for awhile still. Boo!

This spring? I'm looking forward to it being over, actually. I have to head back to America twice to deal with paperwork ... probably will be more there than here this spring. But on the other end of it I hope to have a work visa! So I'm looking forward to when the spring is over and I'm back here in Italy with a work visa! :-)

sonia - I'm amazed when I see local woman in sky-high heels on their motorinos. When I try to get on a scooter, I do not look elegant. ha

elizabeth - that's a great idea. I haven't had a mani/pedi since October. Not a good look.

laura - Buon viaggio and good luck with your work visa!

Gorgeous shoes! And the secret to walking on cobblestone streets is to always keep your weight on your toes (never your heels or you'll stumble), and watch where you're stepping. It's literally walking on your tiptoes wearing shoes. New York women know how to do it since we've got so many potholes and crumbling sidewalks!

I'm looking forward to being able to swim in the ocean again. Small things....
Those shoes are gorgeous. I have no idea where I would wear them...but wow.

jackie - thanks for the tips. I would like to wear the shoes I already own without destroying them.

C- good luck with you move back and enjoy that ocean!
