Flashback Friday - Sandra Bullock- Trailer for SPEED

Ms. Bullock has been in the news a lot lately. At least this cover is something positive.

She and the man who shall not be mentioned, started the adoption process four years ago. Louis Bardo Bullock came home in January. I can see why she did not want to talk about this in the middle of Oscar season. You can tell she has a good group of friends around her as nobody leaked this to the press.

I keep reading comments from people saying, "good to see someone adopt domestically." I doubt those people have any idea how difficult and expensive it is to adopt period and domestic adoptions are more difficult as there are different parental rights issues. Most children adopted from overseas live in orphanages. Very different from the situation in America.

Children are children and need a stable loving home. What difference does it make which country they come from?

I first noticed Sandra in a movie called "Demolition Man" but "Speed" is the movie that put her on the map.

I remember people saying there was no way a bus would be able to go 50 mph in L.A. traffic. Maybe 2 mph. heh.

Have a great weekend.

Adoption is a complex and broad issue that can't be summed up in a blog reply but I applaud Sandra Bullock for adopting "locally". The unadopted children in the U.S. often end up lost in a system that doesn't work for their best interests. By going the path of least resistance the laws stay in place and nothing changes. If "locals" begin to push for U.S. adoption rather than heading outside the country for the "flavor of the month" -a trend based on politics, need, S.B. adoption answered a domestic need, and travel trends- perhaps shifts will begin to occur in all areas regarding our social responsibility to each other, including the born and unborn.

simone - I agree things need to change but I'm not sure how much can be done regarding parental rights. When people are adopting from abroad those children have no parents (either they are dead or the parents have given them up). That is very rare in America. Most agencies try to place children in America with family members. A good friend of mine is very involved with this issue. You're right, it is very complex.

i fell in love with sandy in "demolition man"...i still love her, although she did fall out of favour with me in "all about steve."

her son is adorable...i hear people discussing overseas adoption all the time, but the fact remains there's a glut of children locally in the system. it's a shame that it's so difficult for deserving couples to become parents in their own country, while any dingbat with a uterus can spit out multiple kids...

dalia - Haven't seen "All About Steve." I love that she won a RAZZIE (award for worst movie) and an Oscar in the same week.

Exactly, it is sad. I look at Octomom and shake my head.

Tracie - He's too cute for words. The look on his face is priceless.
