I'm the middle of a massive Spring cleaning. It's raining today so my windows will have to wait.
I'm not the biggest fan of Gloria or Marc's English language music. I don't speak Spanish (since studying Italian I've been able to understand more of it) but I LOVE this music. It reminds of my childhood. My dad listened to a lot of Latin music and one of my babysitters was from Puerto Rico.
I need to turn up my music when I clean. I heard this song (the original version) and it brought a smile to my face. Maybe not one to my neighbors though, as me singing in Spanish (remember I don't speak Spanish) is probably not a pleasant sound. Anyway, this song is so upbeat, it's a perfect Flashback for a wet, dreary day.
Years ago I was with someone driving somewhere and she asked me how could I listen to music that wasn't in English. I had no words.
Music is music.
Have a great weekend.

I love this! I have always adored Gloria. To me, I always wanted her as a cousin (she is one year older than me) because she's really pretty, smart, good basic values, talented, seems to know how to do the right thing, determined (when I think of the level of the back injury she fought her way back from after her bus accident, it still amazes me). She proved you do not have to dress or act like a tramp to be a the top of the music scene, at least you didn't in the 80s and 90s. GREAT CLEANING MUSIC! Grazie for the flashback!
Funny!! I just played the Mi Tierra CD for a friend over the weekend, after he complained about how he disliked Gloria Estefan's pop music. I explained how much better she sounded in Spanish and included Marc Anthony in that comment..Enjoy the weekend and Happy Cleaning!
out of the woodwork for this one... been reading your blog for awhile and love your writing, stories, observations... you! But this makes me like you even more! Love the fact that you sing along to this!!
Talk about coming out of the dark baby! What year was this? Great post :)
oh, I love that song. I bought the CD way back when just for this song. I'd never seen this video though. Thanks.
I love Latin music. I am Italian and I live in the Netherlands. Once I had a 'first date' with a colleague who told me that we would have to speak Dutch because "you can't befriend somebody by speaking something other than your first language". I was speechless...
p.s. love your blog :)

diana - Prego! I saw a special about her and remembered she had to have steel rods put in her back after that tour bus accident. Can't imagine.
Simone - Isn't that a great CD?
Alicia - thanks for reading zee blog!
regina - not sure what year the concert was. Her CD came out in the '90s.
c - I played that CD to death when it came out. It's excellent.
valentina - grazie. Wow, so does that I mean I should only speak English with my Italian friends?
yeah that's what she meant.
p.s. I "dumped" her after a couple of other "dates". linguistic fascism just isn't for me...
:)

I couldn't agree with you more, "Music is Music". I just discovered the Buena Vista Social Club's first Album and it's amazing! I don't need to know the words to "feel" the music. Rock On and Happy Cleaning!
Ragazza - Yes it was a great CD! Still give me some Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco's Celia y Johnny to clean too :) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPSVhJazjG4 ) - makes me wish I was latin ;)
simone - thanks for the link.
deborah - you might like some of the CDs from individual members of the BVSC. The music is gorgeous.

That skinny dude has one of the best voices around.
