Roger Ebert is dying.

This article in Esquire was one of the most moving pieces I've read in a long time.

Ebert might be best known for saying "Two Thumbs Up" but he was the first film critic to receive a Pulitzer for his work.

I knew he had cancer but no idea he had lost the ability to eat or to speak. That half his jaw is gone.

That he is slowly dying and aware of it.

What would most people do? Ebert does what he loves. Watches films and writes about them.

I don't read him regularly but I'm in awe of his talent, output, and grace in the face of his illness. Saw him once at a screening but was too shy to say anything.

I would like to think that he is living, despite it all, he is living and his example is inspiring!

I read that and it was very moving! I didn't realize he had cancer. so sad - didn't even recognize him from the picture. these days I think its extraordinary to be able to make a career doing something you absolutely love.

Ciao tutti, I agree while the article is sad, the way he's living his life is inspiring.

I'm a professional critic today because my mother bought me a copy of Roger Ebert's reviews from 1973-1985 when I was an eight year-old film buff and voracious reader.

I've been following him on Twitter for a few months now, and it's made me love the man even more, because he's not letting his inability to speak verbally prevent him from expressing himself during such a dark time.

That is tremendously sad and inspirational at the same time. What a man. What a life.

I haven't read the article yet, but was moved by your writing!

it's inspiring that at this late stage in his life he is still doing what he loves. I hope that all of us can be so lucky.
