Favorite Things: Mondi Pasticceria - (danger!)

An Italian friend of mine lives north of Ponte Milvio and we met for coffee at this incredible pastry shop.

This place is dangerous. I was almost overwhelmed by all the delicious treats.

I haven't seen Mondi mentioned in any guide books as Ponti Milvio is a very residential area.

The second time I came to Rome on vacation, I had rented an apartment in Trastevere.

My friend G. suggested we meet for lunch by Ponte Milvio. He said it would take me about about 35 minutes to walk from Trastevere.

Hello, more like 35 minutes by scooter. After walking for a while, I called him while I was standing in the Prati neighborhood and said, "Where the **** is this bridge?" He came to pick me up on his scooter. We had an excellent lunch then went to Mondi for gelato.

You may love these things but really behind your back these things don't love you and don't treat you with any respect. calories,cavities,diabetes,etc... look bloody and in pain with a tear in the wells of your eyes; playing mind games behind one's back with another cupcake?...that cupcake wishes the mind games to just go away...be loyal to the other side like one is suppose to be...cupcake didn't ask for this.. Yummy, Yummy.. put a big smile on my face.

gibber - the place is AMAZING.

anon - that is why I eat sweets in moderation. No need to ban them...I
just don't eat them all the time.

j. doe - so am I.

My son's 4th birthday party was entirely catered by Mondi. And besides the great ice cream, cakes and pastries, the savory stuff is good too!

My thighs are screaming at me right now, in remembrance...

Ciao

eleonora - is it sad that I'm a little jealous of a 4 year olds b-day party?

All I can say is it's a good thing I didn't know about this place when I lived in Rome, or I'd have gained more than the 25 pounds I gained that year.

anon - I don't have a scooter but most of my friends do. I ride with them.

Italian pasticcerias are a real temptation! I went to Rome last year and stayed in a flat that has a lot of holiday apartments in Rome . The owner bought us some "welcoming" pastries from Mondi and they definitely won my heart!

anon - that is a nice owner.

The Prof brought me Mondi for valentine's and we just had his birthday cake from there last night. Funny some guy told me the other day "Mondi, una volta era buona. . . " We responded "yeah, come la settimana scorsa!!!"

See, the whole point of walking to Ponte Milvio (from Trastevere? Ma che amico e, questo?) was to puff off the extra calories BEFORE you get to Mondi's.....so you can eat guilt free!

Sistergirl, have you been to the gelateria behind La Fontana di Trevi? I have been going there since I first visited Rome in 1996. And every time I return, I return to that gelateria. The BEST man...

shulamit - Yes I have if you are talking about San Cripino. There's another one close to my house by the Pantheon. I love their sorbetti.
