A great thing about living in Rome? The fountains.

There are close to 300 fountains in Rome. I know I haven't even seen half of them. Many times I'm running errands or on my way to meet a friend and boom, I "discover" a new fountain.

There is something soothing and even sexy about being surrounded by all these fountains.

In L.A. we have the fountain in Grove which is a big Vegasy thing in the middle of a mall. The owner of the Grove, like the founder of Starbucks, was inspired by his travels in Italy. I don't blame him. They are inspiring.

Some are more about function, some are works of art and they are part of the neighborhood. You don't have to go to a mall to see them.

I'm linking to Lola's great POST on fountains. She has a bunch of outstanding photos.

Lola grew up in Italy and works in film. Her mom is Italian and her father is American. She has spent a lot of time in States and it's interesting to read her POV on Rome, Italy, etc. She's an incredible writer and cook.

I you love Italy, Rome, food, or just excellent writing check out her blog.

Funny, I just came from Lola's blog. Just now.

I love the fact that the fountains in Rome are built up over time and are natural within the environment. We don't have too many of those here in the States, although I do love Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, even though it's not functional most of the time.

I loved all the fountains when we were there this winter. Really I just loved Rome. I spent a week looking a apartments online after we came back and trying to figure out how to get my Bergamasc to move to Rome. Sigh.

Lola's site is lovely. I can't wait to dive in!

Hey Lola. Is that really true? That you can drink the water from all these fountains? So cool.

When I went to france, my favorite part was visiting the countryside homes with the beautiful fountains.

jen - I love that fountain too. there was this interesting fountain near MOMA, water flowing over a wall. I can't remember what street it was on, but I loved to walk by it.

scattered moments - winter is a great time to visit. You might hit a rainy day or two but the light is incredible and there are fewer crowd.

gibber - yes you can drink the water from most of these fountains. If not there is a sign.
