One advantage of having a ridiculously small apartment.

Of course lower heating bills but also it's easy to clean.

My place is so tiny it doesn't take long at all. I turn up some music and get to work.

Thanks to my mom I'm a clean freak. I really HATE clutter. Growing up I wasn't a fan of chores and now I get anxious when my place is messy. ha

The one chore I dislike is vacuuming. I'm so happy I don't have carpeting in this apartment. My place in L.A. had disgusting wall-to-wall carpeting. It was old and a very ugly color.

I don't know why I dislike vacuuming. It's not like the vacuums did anything to me. Am I the only one?

I don't mind vacuuming but I despise mopping.

I love vacuuming! It gives me the sense that I am actually getting rid of dirt. On the other hand, I hate washing dishes.. Mr. R hates dealing with the laundry..he claims he has a problem with textiles in general...mah

I don't mind vacuuming - especially now that I have my new Hoover (the best brand ever) Wind Tunnel with all the really cool attachments...

Maybe I should get a life, huh? (LOL!)

You have heating? Lucky girl! Our electricity bills have suddenly doubled in the last few months, I think we're going to have to start using candles!

Uh, it's not that I hate vacumming, it's just that I don't seem to want to do it. The only thing I don't want to do even more is dusting. Who invented dust anyway! (Oi, and the clutter, let's not go there, I blame the mail!)

lilacspecs - ha!

petulia - Laundry isn't so bad, ironing? That's another story.

tracey - ha. It's okay I get excited after I clean the kitchen/bathroom and everything sparkles. Not a good way to spend a Saturday night.

charlie - my electric bills are probably high compared to an apt. of the same size in the States but because it's so small, the bills are reasonable. During the winter I only turn on the heater in the room I'm in. I can't even imagine what the electric bills are for a house or a large apartment. Yikes.

tracie b. - I do a quick swipe everyday, then the big clean on the weekend. I'm glad I don't glass shower doors anymore. They're a pain to clean.

homebody - I have so much dust. I don't know if it's because hardwood floors show more dust than a carpet or what.

I like your positive list of living in a small apartment. We don't have any carpets or rugs...and I just like my Swiffer now.

Sorry, I LOVE vacuuming. I'm currently visiting my mother in Virginia and I vacuum everday. I cannot stand carpet, but there's nothing worse than seeing dirt or lint or whatever on the floor.
I drive my mother crazy with my neatness but she always stands back and say, "wow, looks great in here". Damn straight, I'm not into clutter nor dirt. Ha!

Ragazza,

Are there Costco's in Italy? I bought a really nice, electric parabolic heater there, in the States, that is really inexpensive to run. In fact, I ran it in my house instead of the central heat and air and my woodstove because a) I loved the heat and b)it was so much cheaper and less work than the other heat sources. It doesn't have sleek Italian design but it warms everything especially the bones quite toastily. You might check it out for next year.

erin - I need to get a Swiffer.

felicia - HOOVER would be happy to see all this vacuuming love. ha

gibber - you must never let mom hear you say such things. x

ninety9 - I'm with you on that. Filing is boring.

homebody - there aren't any Costcos here but my landlord bought a De'Longhi heater which are excellent (and stylish. ha)

Im horrible at cleaning. Love to vacum and love my wood floors. Collects dust quick, but better than carpeting.

The Professor and I fight over vacuuming because we both love doing it-- me because its meditation, him because he's a freak. I leave it to the Professor. It's the price he pays since I am cuter.

How small is your apt? Our place is 65 sq meters and there are three of us. It's impossible to clean as we have no where to put our stuff. Oh and we pay 1200 euros a month! Way more than the average Italian monthly wage. :(

glamah and moscerina - once again I'm shocked at all this vacuum love!

kataroma - mine is 40 sq meters but I do pay a little below market (thank god). I saw other apartments the same size as mine in the same area and all of them were 1300 and up. While my place is small the architect did a great job with the space. I have a few built-ins which helps with storage. That said, my apartment in L.A. was double the size of my current place!

I really hate vacuuming also. I live in a tiny studio and have stuff carefully packed in my closet with the vacuum in the back. I think it is just the chore of dragging the vacuum out of the closet that bothers me the most. I would love to have wood floors but cannot due to townhouse rules since I live on the second floor.

girasoli - I understand. I have that issue with ironing. It's not so bad but it's such a pain pulling the board out of the closest. I put it off until the last minute.
