Flashback Friday – Sense and Sensibility

Emma Thompson (one of my favorite actresses) won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

This movie from 1995 was nominated for several Oscars and was directed by the very talented Ang Lee. I went to see the movie with co-workers and at the end we all were in tears. Even my intense co-worker who cursed so much she made Christian Bale's rant seem like an out take from Sesame Street.

Here is the trailer. Have a great weekend.

Wait a second, no CB in this film, that was Little Women. Worked on that too. Oh how the braing oes when you get to a certain age. Loved this one though!

I love this too. And I remember taping it off the tv years ago seeing that it was in English with subtitles in French for once. Can't stand the dubbed versions, they lose so much.

Loved it and own it. It is so beautiful in the understated type of way.

Great film and great job on the adaptation. I love Emma Thompson too and I think it was the first time I ever saw Kate Winslet. If memory serves me correctly, I think Emma Thompson married one of her Sense and Sensibility co-stars.

I love this movie! Emma Thompson is one of my favourite actresses. She was married to Kenneth Branagh of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING! Another great movie!
I think Mr. Rickman got a bad rap in S&S.

I love this movie especially since two of my favorite actors are in it: the lovable Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson. Then again, I also love all things Jane Austen. Brings back high school days when we had to read these books for English Literature class. I also just love the period and all the good manners it upheld, what a time is was back then!!!!

This is one of my favorite films. What's funny is I never saw it in theaters and never saw the trailer before today. Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman are some of my faves as well. Nice way to start my day!

Ciao tutti

So glad to see I'm not the only one who loves this film.

I saw the DVD on sale for 10 Euros at the big book store on Via del Corso. I'm going to buy it.

I had the VHS but donated all of my tapes when I moved.

Jane Austen is timeless and I love Emma. She's marvelous. I watch every single Austen adaptation I can get my hands on.

I've also seen a million versions of Jane Eyre. I never get sick of it. lol

Hello! I read the comments and just to set the record straight, yes Lucia, Emma Thompson was indeed married to K. Branagh but she later married Greg Wise who played Willoughby in S&S. Ciao ciao!

I love this movie, Jane Austen's book, and Emma Thompson! The recent BBC edition of 'Sense and Sensibility' that aired on PBS stations across the US recently was perfectly adequate, but Thompson's adapatation + the cast and direction = heaven.

I saw Thompson in 'Last Chance Harvey' three weeks ago and was utterly charmed. I swear, I only saw it because I heard Hoffman's character threatened to "dance your socks off!" and "carry your books" to Thompson's character, and it was so ridiculous and deliciously retro I almost ran to the theater. Is it playing in Italy?

Also, half the theater during 'Last Chance Harvey' could not stop whispering about Emma's new cuves--since she gained a bit of weight for the so-so 'Brideshead Revisited' remake. The septuagenarian sitting behind me approvingly noted her badonkadonk! (I almost fell out of my chair.) She looks kind of voluptuous and sexy in the film--even in gray polyester.

and Mr. Wise is younger than Ms. Thompson.

Yvonne, I want to see that movie too. It hasn't been released here yet but I have read good reviews.

Seeing the words "badonkadonk and Emma Thompson" in the same sentence cracked me up. She is fifty and fab.

Okay, this is too weird... I've been craving and craving seeing that movie lately - it's on the top of my netflix cue. What a fabulous movie start to finish, and Thompson's adaptation was brilliant. And it's where I first fell in love with Alan Rickman.
