This Phyllis Hyman song sums up a typical Valentine's Day for this Ragazza.

It's another Valentine's Day. As usual I have no man, no flowers, no candy, no nothing! ha

Like the song says, "I can't stand this living all along."

I used to love this song. It was quite the slow jam back in the day. I don't know why Ms. Hyman took her own life. We lost a very talented singer that day.

tracey k/Ohio: ragazza, once you get established elsewhere, you will have a man (or men), flowers, candy, attention & all that good stuff. It's your location, darling (ha!) Sadly, L.A. is not the place for that. Those men out there have some type of "barbie syndrome"; if you don't look like one, keep steppin. I had a very hard time w/that when I lived there. And to show you how times haven't changed, my 50 year old brother who still lives there and who is, I must admit, very good looking, declared that "he isn't looking for anything serious - he just wants to keep "messing around." Why does my pea-brained bro feel like that @ his age? Cause he's in barbie land (ha!) Cheer up girlfriend :-D

And yeah - it was a very dark day when Ms. Hyman made the choice she made. What a voice.

tracey K- okay your brother is saying this at 50? What is he going to do? Settle down at 60 with a 25 year old? One of my friend's good friend married her boss who is literally twice her age. Men in my age group are so not checking for me. That's cool I'm leaving in 6 weeks. Later L.A.!!! :)

re: I saw her perform once back when I lived in DC. Great, great voice.

I would just feel that Rome was obviously more conducive for love than LA. It seems natural. ;-)

My parents' good friend moved to Rome around 40 (this was in the 50s), met an Italian there and they were together for 40-some years. He was great fun - they were wonderful together.

You aren't alone! You have ITALY!!! Could you just up and move over here if there was a MAN in the picture??

gibber - :)

jen- Roma is love spelled backwards. ha.

cherrye - Very good point. One friend told me I would meet the love of my life a week before I leave L.A. I told her that was highly doubtful.

It has being very cold these days but I've never saw a sun like this for months. It's better than summer...
