Sad.
This was "grown folks" music when I was growing up. When I got older I started to listen to all his music. I loved his work with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and his solo work. They were part of that great Philly soul movement.
He had a great voice and will be missed.

Another great talent gone. I can't hear Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes "If You Don't Know Me By Now" without considering how great his voice/emotion was (my parents played that song forever :) ). RIP Teddy
this made me very, very sad. I lived in Philly when he was at his height. It is hard to explain how popular he was, or how devastated people felt when he had his accident back in 1982. He was a wonderful singer and he seemed like a wonderful person as well.
A sad week all around.
I just want to add that that was quite an era -- the music in Philadelphia at that time was soft, jazzy, gentle, sexy, and Teddy was part of all of that. There was a great station in Philly at the time that had an evening program from 8 till midnight called the Philly Brown - Out. I fell in love with my husband to that music and just listening to the video you posted brought it straight back to me.
simone - my parents played that record all the time too.
diana - the music of that era was/is full of so much soul. I miss it.
Love me some Teddy Pendergrass...just heard about his death like a few minutes ago...great crooner...a tremendous loss to the music industry...RIP Teddy....
Thanks for posting this memory. I, also, lived in Philly when he had his accident. The radio station was WDAS, Diana!

R.I.P. I loved his music way back when. Plus, the man was foiiine!
Might be just a perception, or maybe I'm at 'that age', but it seems that over the last few years a disproportionate number of great artists have passed away. When you've grown up to their music it's really difficult to watch.
