Peace out August...

It's like someone pressed a massive button and pow, the Italians are back.

I'm glad. While I didn't miss the insanity that is Rome traffic, I missed my friends and the energy of the city.

The two expats friends who were still in town, were over the whole Ferragosto situation by August 16th. Ha.

Last week I went to lovely Piemonte for my birthday. I have to go though a billion photos before I can post about it.

It was a great birthday, thanks to some very special people.

I'm excited about the fall.

Perhaps it's something left over from our back-to-school days but I always feel recharged going into fall. Not to mention I'm so sick of this hot weather.

I can't wait to start cooking again. When it's 103 F outside and you have no AC, the last thing you want to do is turn on an oven.

The Serie A season has started. Let's hope Roma has a better year than last year. They have lost their first two games. Zero points in the rankings! Mamma mia. This is no way to start the season.

I definitely think it's the old back-to-school spirit...plus some hopefully cooler temps and lower humidity ASAP...I'm with you! Woohoo! Lots to do these last four months of 2009!

I'm excited about the fall too. Was Piemonte in full Autumn swing already? Truffles? Nebbiolo? Risotto? Mmmmm...

Solved my Final Draft doubts, btw.

Can't wait to see the photos of the trip.

Ciao,
~Lola xx

michelle - yes it's cooler. It's only 90 today. ha.

aim - yes it is a great city to visit.

lola - no it was warm. I think truffles season kicks off in a few weeks. Check your email. Daniela is great, in case you have any other FD questions.

You *do* sound energized! This is just the way I'm feeling today after starting back to work after my staycation and seeing apples for real at the farmers market on Saturday. We have weather in the 60s now. Hope it breaks for you soon, too.

Glad, too, that you had such a nice birthday!

Ciao, happy to see you back blogging if you cannot still be here (snif). The temperature turned to winter yesterday -- like 68 -- and went back up to 80 today.

The vendemmia started in full and the roads are loaded with tractors which are in turn loaded with Moscato and Brachetto.

It is still very summery here. Truffle season starts in October and goes to February.

Nothing like a city in autumn to light your burners (uh oh, bad phrase since you're still having hot weather). Glad the city is coming back to life and your friends are returning. But isn't Piemonte just great??!

What about relocating?
Have you already left Campo de Fiori?

jen - It's still in the high 80s but at least that is better than high 90s!

diana - I bought a blender today because I must make some of that acqua frescha! It won't be the same of course. I don't have a pool in my apartment.

fern - it is. I can't wait to go back.

j. doe - grazie!!

anon - I have a contract/lease. Also once winter hits it does quiet down quite a bit. Can't wait.

Sounds like a wonderful way to spend your birthday.

I love your commentat the end re Roma and football season. I can no more imagine myself getting into French sports than I can . . . well, I don't know a good analogy, but that is a pretty cool perspective and probably a good key to making oneself feel at 'home' in a new culture!

So you haven't relocate to the atrocious commieblocks of the horrifying Rome's outskirts yet...
Can't wait to see you there facing horrible traffic problems to get that dump called Centro Storico... wow, Camp de Fiori... we should call it Campo de Sorci... are you able to sleep there?

stephanie - thank you!

kim b - it was. Well I played and followed sports growing up so after living in L.A. for ten years as NON Lakers fan it's good to be able to root for the home team.

anon - I don't know what you are talking about. I wouldn't live on the "outskirts" of any city and never have.

Please start your own blog where you can complain about Rome 24/7.
