Just What Rome Needs...

Another Burger King.

If this was going to be an In-N-Out Burger that would be good news. After reading Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation" I avoid all fast food chains except In-N-Out. I wish they would expand but then I guess the things that make them stand out, fresh potatoes cut on the premises for their fries, higher wages, better quality meat, etc., would suffer.

The last time I flew home to St. Martin for Christmas, I got stuck in Miami International Airport during my return to L.A. The plane had to refuel in Puerto Rico. We all missed our connecting flights. I spent the night in the airport. The only place that was open was Burger King. I had a Whopper Jr. and some fries. I got so sick.

There are more MickyD's here than Burger Kings. Maybe BK is trying to catch up.

In the whole city of Gent there is one fast food restaurant and that's a McDonalds. In fact, the only other fastfood place I know of in Belgium is Qwik, which is actually Belgium's answer to McDonalds. If you hate fastfood, Belgium is a good place to be.
I do miss me some Starbucks though.

Ciao, just wanted to tell you that the olive oil and lemon cake is delicious. Do try it.

I cannot eat any fast food after seeing the documentary "Super size me"
I try and follow Michael Pollan's creed: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants" Naturally, that doesn't include gelato but that is a whole food group unto itself.

Detroit is the worse ! at least in LA we have better choices

It seems that American fast food joints are all over the world. So why aren't there any foreign fast food places here?

Btw, I live in California, home of In-N-Out!

Eww... definitely agree that the LAST thing the world needs is another BK.

Have you gotten to see Food, Inc? yet? I really, really want to, but someone says I'll never eat again if I do!

lilacspecs - I'm surprised there isn't a Starbucks. They are all over Europe except for Italy. Since the founder of Starbucks got the inspiration for Starbucks in Italy they wisely realized that bringing sand to beach would not work.

imani - grazie. I saw a Giada de laurentiis recipe for one.

Ms. Violetta - I saw that doc too. Very scary. I'm big Pollan fan.

david - L.A. does have a lot of variety.

monie - you are very lucky! Those burgers are the bomb. Fast food ala MickyD's is a very american thing. In Europe fast food/street food are things like crepes, pizza, etc.

los angelista - it hasn't come out here yet. I read the NYT review. I think Michael Pollan is involved so I def. want to see it.

So sad..we have to start protesting against all these chain fast foods. Are you up for some protest?

petulia - Yes I am.

I wish I was fluent in Italian so I could find out what the heck is going on with the zoning laws in my neighborhood.

Ewww gross... My son is already a misfit in school, he's the only one who's never had a Happy Meal.

In NoCal I OD'd on In-n-Out burgers, and the fries (well done) are to die for.

Why BK??? Perhaps you're right, it's a battle of the Roman fast food wars.

Baci,
Lola xx

YES! Giada's almond citrus olive oil cake is the one I make. If I were there, I'd bake you one to make up for your terribly noisy night :-).

imani - that is very sweet. (no pun intended)
