I HATE penalty kicks!

That's all I got to say.

Why, why, didn't del Piero and Toni take the PKs? They're getting pretty silly about this ageism thing in soccer.

Frankly I thought that was partially why Del Piero came in at the end, because he's a good penalty kicker (err... well, you know what I mean!)

Two years ago they won on penalties. Now they lost. I'm sad.

I woke up this morning thinking I had had a horrible nightmare but it was all REAL!! I felt physically ill watching the Azzurri. They didn't play well after the first 20 min (except for Buffon, Chiellini and Cassano), they really needed Gattuso and Pirlo, and Del Piero should have come on earlier. But in the end Spain was the better team. They really deseved to win. The real problem is this: now that the Azzurri are out, who am I going to ogle?!?!!

ANCHIO!!! All the finesse and skill it takes to play the game, and it comes down to a match between the other team and the goalie? Lame, lame, lame. (Of course, I didn't mind them two years ago when Italy won--but they're still lame.)

Ah yes. CS informed me of your loss. And the Dutch. It will be really interesting to see how this German /Turkish thing plays out.I would love to be in Germany witnessing this, or not.

I think that Del Piero would have taken the last penalty. They must submit a list with the order before they start kicking, and since the fifth penalty is usually the determining one, they save the best for last....

I also think that the coach knows his team members from a mental/psychological point of view--some players dont perform as well under pressure (Toni, for sure!). That might have something to do with the choice and the order of the players.

homebody -See girl in giro's comment.

annika - I know. It's ironic.

milanese masala - I have no idea who I am going to root for. Very upsetting. I look to you for another sexy/ugly list. ha

beatriz - I was watching the game at a friend of a friends house. It was so sad. The host turned off the TV right after it ended. He could bear to watch any post game commentary.

bleeding espresso - thank you. I had to change it because almost every single person I told or heard about the move reference those movies or that book.

gibber - thanks. The game almost gave me a heart attack.

rose in cali - I feel you but I guess it's the only way to break a tie.

glamah16 - ha. Are they playing each other? That should be very interesting. I'm going over to the Eurocup website to see what the dealio is.

girl in giro - very good point. It seem Mr. Toni had a hard time finding the net during the entire match. sigh.

Disappointing but the Spanish played a lot better than the Italians so I was glad they won - it was only just (just like the Russians beating the Dutch last week unfortunately - the Russians just played a lot better.)

I was supporting the Dutch but now I'm supporting the RUssians or the Spanish.

kataroma - Spain is really playing well. Now they are in the finals for the first time in a very, very long time...24 years.
