It is the point of no return. I told my immediate bosses at lunch I'm moving to Rome at the end of March. There were some tears. They thought I was going to say I found a new job, sold my book or that I was moving back to New York City.
They couldn't be more supportive and happy for me. Then in the middle of our lunch we started getting calls that Heath Ledger was found dead at 28. WTF?!

Very sad about Heath Ledger. I keep thinking about his young daughter.
But Wooooooooohooooooo for you! That is SO exciting! And I'm glad there were tears - that's always a good sign when someone's leaving. Again, congratulations.
Wow, congrats!!!!
This is such an important step, I think. Gives it an official seal that also gets things moving all around you :)
Don't you think it's hard to guess how others will take it? People who I thought would be supportive weren't and those who I thought wouldn't, instead are incredibly curious and want to know every little detail... so funny.
Exciting stuff, congrats!
you got that right on-WTF!
End of March, eh? It'll be here so fast, you won't know what happened!
Brava! I wouldn't be surprised if some of your coworkers are a just a little jealous of your courageous plans. Tanti auguri, ed in bocca al lupo!
Wonderful! It takes a lot of courage to venture into the unknown like that, but to me, that is what living is about. As someone who made a similar leap of faith some years ago I'll tell you that it can be scary as hell, and you sometimes question your sanity. (Others will, too.) The one thing you won't do is regret it.
Just found out about Heath Ledger myself. Horrible. Shocking. Really saddened me.
jen - thank you. I am still in shock about the Heath news.
roam2rome - grazie. I am just starting to tell people. I told one agent I was leaving and he said "Where are you going Italy?" ha
claudia - as I was driving home I thought March is not that far away at all. What have I done? :)
rose in cali - grazie, they did ask if they could come with me.
wordtryst - thanks for the encouragement. My family has been very supportive as well, which is very helpful. I'm sure I will be stressing out in about seven weeks.
It's awesome to read someone just go for it. I cannot wait to read all about your adventures in Rome.
Congratulations.
Hi,
How fantastic! My goodness March will be here before you know it. Just know that the universe will conspire to help you especially now that things are official!
Ps. lm leaving in May. Email me l might have some info for you regarding an apartment in rome.
Congratulations on your upcoming move.
rose - thank you!
confessions - good luck with your move. I'll email you.
j. doe - grazie!
It is always so weird to hear that someone so young died unexpectedly. I heard it only today in class...very sad.
But BRAVA for you! That's exciting news. One step closer!
erin - it is strange. The cops are saying it looks like an accidental overdose.
Yes it is one step closer. Next I have to find an apartment.
Wow, you're one step closer! Hooray! I had no idea who this Heath person was, so I had to google the name. So sad to die so young. :(
Congrats to you!
I was just flipping the channel this morning on the Italian news when I heard that someone was found dead in his apartment, looked up and saw a photo of Ledger. "Cosa?!!!!" I literally said out loud. Unbelievably sad especially for his daughter and Michelle Williams even if they were split up :(
What a big day for you!
I absolutely admire your courage in moving forward with your Italy plans! This is awesome.
March will definitely be here before you know it, and just think, that means sooner rather than later you'll be living your dreams!
And very sad about Heath Ledger. What a tragedy.
So exciting.
I'm so jealous.
I'm assuming you've read "Eat. Pray. Love." if not...make it your plane book.
giulia - yes it is. His poor family.
michelle - grazie.
liz - Thanks. I'm not sure if it's courage or sheer craziness but I am excited to move forward.
model - yes I have read the book. I'm getting "Gomorrah" soon but I don't think I should read that on the plane to Italy. It's the English translation of an Italian best seller. The young journalist wrote about the modern day mafia/corruption. He is now in hiding.
congrats! Wow, big step - no turning back now. Its very exciting!!
Right - Heath?? I was SHOCKED. I figured he had some substance abuse problems and when I heard cardiac arrest I thought - uh oh. So sad, I liked him. and he has such a little daughter =(
Hey, I'm glad you're really making the move!
I'll be there in the spring so you, Roam2Rome and I will have to meet for an aperitivo at the very least! :-)
I'm really sad about Heath Ledger, that was such a shock :-(
I see "in bocca al lupo" has already been wished upon you so I'll just say this: I know that looking back you will find that leaving Los Angeles was a very good thing (it was for me) and moving to Rome will be among the best decisions you ever made (also was for me)!
No regrets. Don't look back.
Keep writing.
texas espresso - Thank you. Yes there is no turning back (a little scary).
tina - yes, we will. Looking forward to it.
anna l'americana - grazie. Glad to hear something postive from someone who made the move. How long did you live in L.A.?
Congrats! This is a big step towards making your dream a reality. I and the other Rome bloggers are looking forward to having you here!!
Wow! it's getting exciting for you.
Very sad re Heath Ledger, especially for the family he leaves behind.
What a great step my friend!!! I am very excited for you! Doesn't it feel great???
I am STILL in shock about his passing.
Congrats amica!!
shelley - Thank you!! I look forward to getting together again and meeting the others.
delina - Yes it is getting close. I don't believe it. ha
katerina - Grazie. It feels strange. I know I'm moving but don't quite believe in a few months I will be living overseas.
