What the heck happened to the French? The finalists from the last World Cup completely imploded. Things were so bad, President Sarkozy wants some answers.
The USA won their group for the first time since 1930. They play Ghana next. Ghana is the only African team to make it to the round of 16.
The match everyone is talking is England vs Germany on Sunday. After a rough start England (who along with America, has the most fans traveling to South Africa) avoided elimination.
The South American teams are kicking butt. Will Argentina go all the way?
Italy plays later today. Nobody is giving them a chance to retain their title. Poverino.

This WC is definitely crazy! Did you see on one of the broadcasts of Donovan's goal there's a guy in the stands with a "Yes We Can" sign, American flags on either side. Love it!
And hey, maybe the Azzurri will start playing awesome today...never know this year, right?! ;)
Michelle - I missed that photo but have seen other pics of the American fans going crazy. I wish I was at that game!
Not sure what to expect from the Azzurri today. Maybe it's for the best that they are so under the radar.
A bunch of ppl were watching the game in my office. When donovan scored we erupted in screams and cheered when we saw the yes we can sign. Cute.
Who knows...maybe soccer will finally catch on here.
I wish usa wasn't playing ghana...I was rooting for them to do well.
Oh, and france is a joke. They need to fire everyone and start over.
gibber - I don't know. Every WC they say soccer is on the brink of catching on in America.
at the gym this week
i was watching the World Cup

'''what is that?''"
:-\
eeerrrrr....
'''THE ENTIRE WORLD
DOES NOT PLAY
AMERICAN FOOTBALL,
GUYS!'''
well,
sorry for screaming here...
but
you can only imagine....
some pink flowers - no need to apologize. I know exactly what you are talking about!
I was (big surprise) happy to see the Germans win yesterday, for several reasons. I did not like the "war" references going on in the British press - I felt they were out of line and absolutely not in keeping with the spirit of the championship. The Germans had none of it -- they are a young team, quite fresh, and acted professionally during the build-up. No one expected them to do anything this WC - in fact, the team is so young that this was considered training for the Europa Cup 2 years from now.
The BBC announcers were outrageous -- they really degraded the German team in the pre game show, wondering if the Germans could "keep up with Premiere League Play" and so on. Only at the end did they totally turn coats and berated their own team to no end. Wrong approach. Silly. Unprofessional.
Anyway, a longwinded way of saying, good going, Germany, looking forward to Germany vs. Argentina now!
diana - I saw some of the BBC coverage. Sad.
