I love your blog and was wondering if you could maybe give me some advice about coming to Rome on my own. It's for a short break but have no idea where is good to stay, if I will be okay on my own etc.
simone - I am so sick of my winter clothes. I will try to get creative with my spring clothes seeing how I won't be able to buy any new ones.
bella - grazie. Before my move I rented an apartment for three weeks. I found expatsinitaly.com and tripadvisor.com very helpful.
Regarding where to stay, buy a few guide books (I like Eyewitness and Time Out) and read up on the different areas.
The Historic Center is more expensive, crowded and touristy. Staying right outside the Center might be a great way to go...depends on what your interests are.
I know plenty of women of different ages and races who have moved to Rome on their own. They're fine. Learn the language and use the same common sense you would in any large city. There are a ton of expat groups for networking. I haven't joined one but know there are some that organize Happy Hours, day trips etc.
I always mean to visit your blog and comment but now at work most sites are blocked so can only do it in the evenings, if I can find the time. Don't feel too bad about fashion week. Except for Clive Owen, most of the people who buy those clothes look AWFUL in them!! And they're probably in debt too. So they're poor and ridiculous ;) After I moved to a new house I threw out a ton of clothes I didn't wear anymore. I realized I only wore 20% of the clothes in my wardrobe. So now, I'm much more careful when I go shopping. I didn't even buy anything for myself during the sales in January which is a miracle for me!
Raga I totally relate - I have already started to put away the really heavy woolies and pulled out the cottons - I stare at them daily hoping my mind will will the warm breezes - Email me for the "commando" shopping plan that ensures you're styling! LOL :)
milanese - moving overseas forced me to be ruthless. I had a longer reply but now I'm just going to write a post instead.
redbonegirl97 - thanks for stopping by my blog.
simone - sadly I can't do the big closet switch yet. We are scheduled to get another full week of rain. At least it's not as bad as some other areas of Europe. I hope next week is the last of it. On the bright side, the flowers will bloom well.
Lady, forget fashion week. You'd best put on your favorite lipstick, get your brows in check and stroll out of the house with your prettiest white blouse and black slacks. Oh, and never ever forget to spritz on your favorite scent. Heads will turn and roll, oh yes, they will turn and roll! Trust.

I just gave away 6 huge bags of clothes. it's almost refreshing to see so much space in my closet. on the down side, i have no closthes.
clive owen would look good in a potato sack.
gibber - I know what you mean. I had very few winter clothes to begin with after living in L.A. for 10 years.
I agree with your very important POV regarding Mr. Owen.
That is hilarious. (And all very true re: my man Clive!) ;-)
Cherrye - ahem...your man? hmmmm
Now girls!! Surely there's plenty of Mr. Owen to share for everyone!
kim b - ha! I'm not sure about that.

felicia s. - I think I'm going to treat myself to a new lipstick!
