R.I.P. Bernie Mac

He was only 50.

His stand up was hilarious. Below is a clip from the show, which was based on his real life. A few years ago he took in his sister's kids. His routine about that experience in the concert film THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY brought the house down. So not P.C. but I laughed my ass off.

He was down to earth. Was at his core still a guy from Chicago.

I was shocked. They denied he was dying all week here, but then he passed away right at the same hospital my friend died of pneumonia a few weeks back. So sad.

I learned about your site from visiting Field Negro. I've read this blog from your very first post to catch up. It's sad about Bernie and Isaac Hayes is also gone @ 65. Just said losing ppl so young.

my absolute favourite thing he has ever done was the bit about milk n cookies from kings of comedy. his voice and style are unique and inimitable, and he has that memorable voice in the way that je jones, morgan freeman, keith david, and samuel jackson are instantly recognizable. this man was a true great. very very sad!

Oh how sad, I liked him so much and I had no idea he was 50! He looks younger.

my melange - 50 is way too young.

glamah16 - That was so strange. I heard reports he was sick then assumed everything was okay after the denials.

sdg1844 - thanks for visiting. Issac and Bernie were in a movie together that will be coming out later this year. I didn't read the script but apparently it does deal with death and now two of the stars are gone.

dalia - that milk n cookies had me on the floor. At first I think I was shocked at what he was saying but then fell out. His movie career didn't really reflect his brilliance on stage.

joanne - he was diagnosed with a lung problem a few years ago, then was in remission. His poor family.

I'm going to Google it now.
