A person I met at dinner party over the summer, invited me to try their Capoeira class. I thought, "why not?"
Well despite working out 5-6 days a week, the class kicked my butt. The next day it hurt to walk down steps. I understood why my legs were sore but my entire body?
A few classes in, no more pain but the steps are getting more and more difficult. I really don't think I'll be doing a backflip any time soon. I'm no spring chicken.
Our Professor is from Brazil, so my friend translates from Portuguese into Italian. Thank god I do know enough Italian to follow.
One of my friends back in L.A. who's a dancer, told me to really be careful with the transitions. I haven't take dance classes since I moved from NYC to L.A. over 12 years ago.
It's fun to try something new but there are moments in class when I say to myself, "What was I thinking?"
Those thoughts also come to mind when I watch Capoeira videos:

WOW! Good for you for going for it! They had a group doing capoeria at the summer solstice parade. But in the video-near the end when the two are doing handstands jumping up and down with their hands? Holy crap!
oh come on. You don't find this stuff easy? I flip like that just getting out of bed in the morning.
Seriously, be careful. This looks like something for "the kids". HA! I think I will stick with raking and walking the dog.
That is so freakin' cool that you have the guts to go do this!!! I wish I had half your gumption! This is a big reason why you are going to be a BIG SUCCESS!!!!!
Regardless of whatever you "were thinking", I'm thinking you're awesome for giving this a go!
OMG! My wrists hurt just looking at them doing, whatever! What were you thinking! (But, brava for doing it!)
I totally agree with you. I signed up for a class, but dropped out after about 5 lessons. My body was all, "WTF?!!", every single day. :P
P.S. Have you thought about taking Zumba classes? I was thinking about going to the classes at the gym. It seems more low impact and dance-oriented (though, I'm sure I will still hurt in places I forgot I could hurt.
moi - holy crap is right. I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon.
diana - ha! I'll be careful.
kimb - ahhw thank you.
carrieitly - grazie. it is fun even when I have no idea what I'm doing.
homebody - that is one area I have to watch. the professor is constantly telling fix the position of my hands. I start Italian classes after the festival so my schedule is pretty full for now. I hear those classes are fun though.
viajera - After my first class I was really tempted to say, basta. The pain next day was no joke.
Fun! I mean, painful, but fun! No?
cherrye - yes, it's really fun and a great workout.
