I was wondering, what's the deal with Berlusconi's comment regarding Obama being "tannned"? Has there been any reaction amongst Italians to that comment and what has the reaction been? Just curious. I only heard about it this morning on CNN.
Nice pics. It was nice to see so many people react to the news! Sherry, Berlusconi is a complete idiot. The guy king of bad taste and thankfully doesn't represent what the majority of Italians think.
kimb - maybe there will be events in Paris for the swearing in?
nancy - I think there is a Venice chapter. Look on the Democrats in Italy website.
sherry - I saw the clip this morning too. He said that Obama is going to do well. Then he said well of course because Obama is great, good looking and tan (bravo, bello e abbronzato) hahahaha. Okay I might have missed something in translation but I assume Silvio B thinks he himself has these qualities so its all good. sigh. He's a mess. He once said, I think to the President of Denmark, "Wow you are so good looking I should introduce you to my wife." No words.
Petulia - One of our mutual friends covers him and said B. doesn't see why his foot in mouth problem is an issue. Somebody needs to school him. He is a PM representing a county not a stand up comic.
eryn - this was only one of a few events. Folks here were very excited.
The "arrivederci dubya" poster really cracks me up!
Rome's expats have some excellent community organizers, I'd say. I'm unaware of anything like this in Naples, although all the Neapolitans I know support Obama.
Looks like it was great turnout and time. Well all the celbrations are winding down and hes already into the work. Right now hes holding a press confrence next door to the office. Maybe some cabinet announcements?
mental mosaic - there was a naples chapter but not sure if they had any events. That poster made me laugh too.
glamah16 - man the next few months (year really) are going to be tough for him. All ready the opposition is all over him for the Rahm appointment.
jen - I was happy to post pics from a celebration.
sherry - what is so sad is he still doesn't understand why many Italians are annoyed with him. I mispoke ...he said Obama was young (giovane not bravo). People are tried of his "sense of humor".

Very fun, thanks for sharing. I'm embarrassed to say I was so lame I stayed home and didn't join any festivity here in Paris. : (
wow, I can't believe the expat comunity in rome is so organized! I feel like I'm the only American living here in Venice!
Thanks for sharing those pics.

that's so cool that you were able to attend such an Obama-saturated gathering in Rome!

Fabulous Flashback Friday! I loved the Arrivaderci Dubya, too.
Thanks for the assessment. Your impression of his remarks reflects mine. He's just a mess.
