Flashback Friday – 39th season of Sesame Street, Dave Chappelle

Sesame Street has kicked off its 39th Season. I used to adore the show as a kid. Most of the Spanish I know is from the show. Ha.

Great songs, excellent characters, what’s not to love? As I got older I started to wonder about some things. Like, what was the real relationship between Bert and Ernie. Hmmm

Anyway, this short clip cracked me. A reminder for those at work or who don’t like curse words: It’s Dave Chappelle.

The Oscar the Grouch joke had me on the floor.

Who was/is your favorite character? I liked Cookie Monster because well, I liked cookies and my strict West Indian mom who was a nurse, wouldn’t let us eat them that often.

I *caught up* on Sesame Street gossip when I was home this summer. All the old regulars are still there (except Mr Cooper because he passed away) Luis and Maria got married, had a daughter and now she's on the show with them too!!! Gordon and Susan are still on the show as well.

LOL! Thanks so much for the clip!! Chappelle is too funny! "Chocolate chips don't do THAT to people". Ha! I will now look at Oscar in a different light. And to think that I was contemplating buying a Sesame Street dvd for my kids. I won't now. I don't want my kids judging me, calling me a grouch. Or worse!

I have to admit that Oscar was my favorite! The guy had edge and mystery, like what did his feet look like? And his can was like a portable fort. He's lucky that Smell-o-vision never became popular!

I AM Cookie Monster! My mother caught me sneaking cookies as a teenager and to this day, she teases me by calling me Cookie Monster. Cookie Monster, Earnie, the purple, fuzzy, bald one with skinny arms (his name escapes me now), that tiny little worm that used to live with Oscar the Grouch. Love them! Love the show!

i can't see the clip because i can't get youtube on my work computer. but, i used to love sesame street! and electric company. i think i really liked big bird, but i love me some cookies!

erin - I do remember those. I also remember the song "Rubber Duckie."

tracie - electric company and zoom were cool too. We were allowed to watch those shows because they were "educational" . the only thing I remember from zoom is the theme song.

I loved The Count. It was alot of fun learning how to "count" from him. LOL. Chapelle is a sick puppy and I love him for it.

HILARIOUS clip!!!! Love sesame street. Nothing will ever compare. As did my sister, I learned most of my Spanish from the show (uno dos tres...). And then there's always:

1,2,3,4..5...6,7,8,9...10...11, 12!

That was too funny! I had the Seasame Street records. You know there's the pat your head/rub your tummy song. And Ernie's rubber duck song. I still remember them and School House Rock!! Back when they used to TRY to teach us something.

I liked cookie monster because of his loose googly eyes. They always made melaugh. I loved how he ate too! Just shoveled it all in.
I also liked the snuffalupagus or however it is spelled.
What a great show. I liked it, and I'm sure my daughter will too.
Is the Electric Company still on the air?

Way too funny. My fave was Elmo, but more as a mom viewer... I'm *just* too old for the early days.

What was the coolest, though, was when C was in his Sesame Street days, Savion Glover was on the show. Savion was my true favorite!

I haven't seen it in ages, but I remember my grandmother used to watch it to learn English. How great is that! I love that they are trying to even out the number of male and female muppets lately - have you noticed?
